Mats Karlsson and Martin Bergek, both founders of Icomera AB, have received TeliaSonera's prize in entrepreneurship in Östen Mäkitalo's memory. The award was announced yesterday at a ceremony at IVA in Stockholm and is given to researchers and entrepreneurs active in telecom with potential to change our lives.

First Group launches new Eclipse Bus’s with Icomera Wi-Fi on Rapid Transit network in South East Hampshire, UK

The vehicles, which cost First £2.3 million, have been bought for use on the brand new Eclipse Bus Rapid Transit network in South East Hampshire, UK. Using what was a former railway line the purpose of the dedicated Eclipse busway is to enable buses to bypass normal traffic, travelling quickly and easily through a very congested part of the county. All the buses have individual leather seats, wood effect flooring, under seat lighting, on board CCTV cameras and infotainment screens, and customers will have access to free Icomera Wi-Fi while on board.

Bus company Stagecoach Bluebird have launched a free Wi-Fi service on their Royal Deeside routes to and from Aberdeen.

The Wi-Fi technology, part-funded by Aberdeenshire Council, will be available to more than 13,000 passengers a week using the 201, 202 and 203 services, which operate between Aberdeen and Braemar, serving Banchory, Torphins, Aboyne, Ballater and Braemar.

Dublin Bus commences service and trials with Icomera WiFi

DUBLIN BUS has confirmed it will begin a pilot of its proposed free WiFi scheme for passengers as early as next week.

It was confirmed a month ago that free wireless internet services would be rolled out to passengers on DART, Luas and Dublin Bus services over the course of the year.

Eastleigh based Bluestar has equipped a double decker bus with the wireless internet technology for its 7.30am Bluestar 1 journey each day.

The company will assess the feedback from customers before considering the option of installing the technology, at a cost of £1,500 per bus, on others in its Bluestar 1 fleet.

First Glasgow Introduces Icomera WiFi enabled Low Carbon Emission Hybrid Buses to Greater Glasgow

First Glasgow, the city's biggest bus operator, has introduced a fleet of ten hybrid double deck vehicles, the first of their kind, to greater Glasgow.

Ronnie Park, managing director of First Glasgow said: "The upgrading of buses on route 66 means that all non-fully accessible, step-entrance buses have been removed from the route and replaced with fully accessible vehicles. The new double deck buses offer increased capacity, leather seats and free Wi-Fi to make the journey more enjoyable for customers and we hope to attract more commuters to travel with us."

Arriva fits Icomera Wifi in new buses with the X-Factor for Medway - UK

Arriva has bought five brand-new buses for use on Service 116 in the Medway Towns.

A new feature, and the first on any local bus service in Kent or Medway, is the fitting of free Wi-Fi to the new 116 buses and also to those used on the 101 between Maidstone and Medway.

Souter Holdings Poland has announced its multi-million Euro plans to invest in 50 new coaches for its successful PolskiBus.com business.

East Coast unveils Icomera train information portal

Train operator East Coast has launched a new welcome page for its popular Wi-Fi service – the first of its kind in the UK rail industry – placing live travel and connections information at passengers’ fingertips.

The new real-time Wi-Fi landing page, which passengers see when they first log onto the train operator’s on-board internet service, links with the National Rail Enquiries database and East Coast’s own train running data and satellite feeds to keep passengers informed of any expected delays ahead of the train.

Stagecoach launches eco-friendly coaches

Twenty one diesel-electric hybrid double-decker buses equipped with Icomera Wi-Fi will travel across Sheffield as part of a campaign by Stagecoach Yorkshire. The buses, with free wi-fi, are claimed to cut carbon emissions by 30%.

Paul Lynch, managing director, said the buses would provide customers with the same service and hoped they would entice more people on to public transport. According to Stagecoach, each bus will use 20,000 fewer gallons of diesel a year.

Jersey Connex bus passengers to get wi-fi access

Jersey's bus operator Connex is adding wi-fi connections on its major routes. The firm said that at present about 10% of islands took the bus regularly and hoped the move would encourage more to use the transport. People using routes one and 15, to Gorey and to the airport, will be able to get online access.
